  • What curriculum does Tree of Life follow? - We follow the CAPS prescribed curriculum and use a thematic approach in the classroom.  
  • How many children to a class? - We have a maximum of 20 children per class. Each class has a head teacher and one teaching assistant, and in the caterpillar class they have two teaching assistants if there are more than 18 children.
  • What time can I drop my child off and what is the latest I can collect? - The school gates open at 07h00 and if children require breakfast they need to be in the classroom before 07h30. All children must be in their classes before 08h00 to ensure classes can begin on time. The school closes at 17h30 and all children need to be collected before this time. In the case of an emergency, please let the office know so that alternative arrangements can be made.
  • From what age can I enrol my child? - We take children from 0 months – 6 years old into the preprimary.
  • Does my child need to speak English to enrol? - No. All instruction is done in English but we are able to assist with children from all language backgrounds.
  • Do you follow the government school term calendar? - Yes we do and we have 4 terms. However in terms of holidays we only take the Easter break and December as formal holidays and remain open for the rest of the year. We do also close for the prescribed national public holidays.
  • Do you provide naptime at school during the day? - All of our preschool children are encouraged to have a short nap during the day, or at least to practice some quiet time. You are asked to bring in a blanket every Monday and we provide mattress covers which are laundered every Friday.
  • What meals does the school provide during the day? - 
  • Half Day – Children are provided with breakfast, lunch and a post naptime snack. Water/juice/tea is also provided all day. Parents are required to provide a healthy mid morning snack for their children.
  • Full Day – Children are provided with breakfast, lunch and both a post naptime snack and a late afternoon snack. Water/juice/tea is also provided all day. Parents are required to provide a healthy mid morning snack for their children.
  • Aftercare Grade R-7 – Children are provided with lunch and a late afternoon snack. Water/juice/tea is also provided all day.
  • Do you have extramural activities? - We offer the following activities on site at school : Soccer Stars, Ballet and swimming. Swimming is also offered and transport is provided to the facility.
  • Do the classes go on excursions outside of the school? - No. We don’t take the children out of school for any excursions. We bring in exciting and informative shows and activities to the school itself. 
  • What is your policy regarding illness at school? - On enrolling you will be given our comprehensive policy regarding illness and medication, however we do follow a strict ‘please don’t bring your sick child to school’ ethos in order to maintain the health of all of our children and staff.
  • How does the school communicate with me regarding my childs activities? - We provide 3 written reports every year, letters, face-to-face communication, communication boks, newsletters and D6 Communicator. The D6 smartphone app within which we distribute newsletters, events and breaking news.
  • Does the school provide transport? - Yes for both morning and afternoon pick up and drop offs, as well as for the aftercare facility. Please see more on our transport options here.
